Spiritual Journey

She saw the homeless young man, comin' towards them,
Begging from the crowd...With his hands outstretched,
Askin' them for anything they could give him.
The people she was with just rolled their eyes and turned away,
And kept on talkin', as if he was invisible,
While he shivered in his thin denim jacket, his face blue with cold,
She reached into her pocket,
And pressed some change into his palm,
She looked deep into his eyes and saw the spirit within him,
And he seemed surprised to be recognized as human.

There's a woman in town walks the streets night and day,
She stops and watches cars go by, talkin' to herself, can't keep her hands still,
Her boyfriend blew her mind on drugs, or so the story goes,
She seems to be struggling, like there's something she's trying to remember,
Someplace she's supposed to be, or maybe who she is,
And people cross to the other side of the street, just to avoid her.
What she really needs is for someone to take her by the hand,
To say, "Hey, I know you, It's gonna be alright, I understand."

It's a spiritual journey, that's what we're on, A spiritual journey, we're all on a Spiritual journey,
Are we human beings on a spiritual journey, Or are we spiritual beings on a human one?

We've all got our worries, sometimes we think we can't take anymore,
How can anybody solve the problems of this world?
Too many people with too many burdens to carry?
And you just don't know how to help them with their load.
You don't have a dime to spare, or time to stop and be friendly,
Sometimes all you need to do is have compassion.
For theirs are cautionary tales to harden not your heart,
And reminders that there but for the grace of God go I.
