Prison Wall Blues

I built my own prison, I built it stone by stone,
I said, I built my own prison, I built it stone by stone,
And by the time I finished with those walls, I had a prison all my own.

I spent years seeking wisdom, on how to scale those prison walls,
Yes, I spent years seeking wisdom, on how to scale those prison walls,
But I could not find the answer, I couldn't climb those walls at all.

I kept praying for a solution, and this is what I finally found,
I kept praying for a solution, and this is what I finally found,
That those walls were an illusion,
& then those walls came tumbling down.

Well, you can spend a lifetime, just trying to break free,
Yes, you can spend a lifetime, just trying to break free,
Well, it took me half a lifetime to see,
My freedom starts inside of me.

Oh, we build our own prisons, yes, we do,
We build them stone by stone,
I said, we build our own prisons, we build them stone by stone,
Til we make the decision, to let those prison walls be...
Go-o-one.
